Summary
Joey is a young boy whose friend tells him about the Sandman. He
is then determined to stay up all night in order to see him but
he becomes sleepy. He decides that if he was the Sandman he would
use his red wagon and fly around in that. Before he knows it he
feels bumping and bouncing and realizes he is out in the night sky
flying in his wagon. Suddenly he falls out and is caught in a net.
Then he hears a voice saying "Who's there?" He looks up
and he sees he is attached to a large ship. An old man pulls the
net onto the deck and explains that the net is not for boys but
to catch shooting stars. But before he can finish explaining he
recognizes Joey. Joey cannot figure out how this man knows him but
then he notices that the hold is filled with golden sand and realizes
he has found the Sandman. Joey then is able to ask all his questions
before morning and the Sandman drops him and his red wagon at home.

Kara is the Gothic root of the word "care."
It means to reach out, to care, to lament, to grieve with.
