What Is Camp Erin?
Camp Erin is a grief camp designed for children ages 6-17 who have
experienced the death of a family member or friend. It is a weekend-long
experience filled with traditional fun camp activities combined
with grief education and emotional support facilitated by
grief professionals and trained volunteers.
Karas Camp Erin will take place at beautiful Camp Arroyo,
situated on 138 acres adjacent to the Del Valle Reservoir in Livermore.
Camp Arroyo has state of the art facilities, including a large dining
hall, pool complex, arts & crafts center, sport court, ropes
course, meadow for field sports, outdoor amphitheatre, and an organic
garden. The use of Camp Arroyo facilities and staff are being generously
donated by The Taylor Family Foundation.

How Does a Grieving Child Benefit from Camp
Erin?
- They learn that they are not alone, and that there are other
children who share similar feelings.
- They learn that their feelings are perfectly normal.
- They have the opportunity to address their feelings and memorialize
their loved ones.
A Fun and Safe Environment
The Taylor Family Foundation and Camp Arroyo
The mission of The Taylor Family Foundation (TTFF) is to preserve
the wellness and enhance the quality of life for children in Northern
California with life-threatening illnesses, disabilities and youth
at-risk through unique, therapeutic experiences & support. At
Camp Arroyo children run and laugh and make friends with kids who
share the same grief experiences. Camp Arroyo was built with kids
in mind! The camps design takes into consideration all the
childrens emotional needs and offers days of fun in a safe
and loving environment. Camp Arroyo is a state-of-the-art facility
built with lots of LOVE!

History of Camp Erin
Camp Erin is named in memory of Erin Metcalf of Woodinville, Washington,
a remarkable young woman who developed liver cancer at the age of
15. Erin had a compassionate heart and when she was hospitalized
she often expressed concern for the other children there as well
as their siblings, who sometimes received little attention.
In 2000, when Erin died at the age of 17, Major League All-Star
pitcher Jamie Moyer and his wife Karen wished to honor Erins
memory and her caring spirit. Acknowledging her love of children
and her desire to help others, the Moyers felt that a grief camp
for children would be an appropriate tribute. The first Camp Erin
was established in Everett, Washington in 2002. For more information
on Camp Erin, and the Moyer Foundation, please visit www.moyerfoundation.org.
Karas Camp Erin is made possible by the generous
support of The Moyer Foundation and
The Taylor Family Foundation.
